JPNC Hears from Subcommittees; Votes in a New Member – Jamaica Plain Gazette


The Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Council (JPNC) met virtually on March 23, where members heard updates from committee chairs, and one new member was elected to the Council.

      Committee chair Carolyn Royce reported that members of the Friends of Blessed Sacrament Church came before the committee to speak about their public statement regarding their wishes for a future developer of the church, which is currently owned by the Hyde Square Task Force, which has put it on the market. The Task Force has been invited to come to the next meeting of the committee to speak about it from their point of view. ....

JPNC Housing & Development Committee discuss Blessed Sacrament sale and BMS Paper project – Jamaica Plain Gazette


The Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Council (JPNC) Housing & Development Committee met virtually on March 16, where committee members heard from the Friends of Blessed Sacrament about their requests to future developers of the Blessed Sacrament church site, as well as reviewed the proposed project for the BMS Paper site at 3390 Washington St.

      Betsaida Gutierrez, a community activist and member of the Friends of Blessed Sacrament, a group aiming to “preserve the Blessed Sacrament Church’s legacy as a shining jewel of the Hyde/Jackson Square neighborhood of Jamaica Plain,” according to its statement, spoke about the public statement read by the group, which was previously reported on by the Gazette. The Hyde Square Task Force owns the Blessed Sacrament church, and after failing to find a development partner, has decided to sell the building. ....

JPNC Zoning Committee Approves Two Washington St. Developments – Jamaica Plain Gazette


The Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Council (JPNC) Zoning Committee met virtually on February 3, and heard two items that brought many residents to the meeting to speak on the issues. The first was a proposal for the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation (JPNDC) and New Atlantic Development to build a new five-story mixed-use building with 39 units of senior housing along with commercial space at 3371-3375 Washington St.
The second agenda item was a proposal at 3326-3328 Washington St. for the construction of a new residential building with 43 residential units.

The senior housing project at 3371-3375 Washington St. has been presented to the community several times before, and Sam Montano of the JPNDC explained that the organization became involved in the project in 2017 to help save El Embajador restaurant. ....

“Martha Eliot Health Center to cut service to adults”
The Martha Eliot Health Center (MEHC) at 75 Bickford St., which is run by Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH), announced it would no longer care for adult patients in a letter to BCH’s staff, associated personnel and volunteers.
The change affected about 5,000 adult patients, according to Dr. Shari Nethersole, MEHC’s acting medical director. transferred the care of adult patients to other facilities in what was a months-long process that started immediately.
The focus on young patients is part of BCH changing its clinical services on “what it does best,” Nethersole said at the time. There are about 4,000 child and teen patients at MEHC, she said. ....
