CFNR Network Mar 12, 2021 2:49 PM A travel advisory is currently in effect between Rainbow Avalanche Gates and Exstew Gate due to a high avalanche hazard. The travel advisory is in effect for 84.9km, that’s 21 km east of Prince Rupert to 30 km west of Terrace. The highway is currently open however, it may close as soon as 6 p.m. today due to the avalanche hazard. Recently, the organization got a mobile health clinic up and running, with help from Telus’ Health for Good initiative. In our interview Leah and I will discuss how Kilala Lelum serves its community with not only quality medical and mental healthcare, but also Elder led cultural guidance. And she’ll talk about what we can do together as a society to help break down barriers facing some people living in the Downtown East Side. ....
CFNR Network Mar 12, 2021 12:34 PM Quesnel RCMP say in a press release that a man suffered several lacerations while attempting to stop a man from stealing items from a local business on Malcom Dr. In Quesnel. At approximately 3:20 p.m. on March 9, employees at Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts saw a man trying to steal items by concealing them in his jacket. When the employees tried to stop him an altercation ensued. During the scuffle, one of the employees received cuts to both his hands and one ear after the male produced a knife. RCMP were close by when the 911 call was received. James Peter Alexander Halvorsen who is a 37-year-old Quesnel resident was taken into custody. A knife was also seized at the scene. ....
CFNR Network Mar 11, 2021 3:12 PM We’re speaking with Myia Antone, founder of a new non-profit organization based in Squamish on this program, a young woman who is helping break down barriers and increase participation and leadership opportunities for Indigenous Women in the outdoors. Myia is currently a full-time student, but dedicates a lot of her free time to helping run various programs – part of her mission with Indigenous Women Outdoors to “hold space for Indigenous women to come together and feel safe on the land”. From backcountry touring, to planned mountain biking programs, the organization is holding true to it’s goals. ....
