Accident site in Bharuch
Surat/Bharuch: Five people died and 10 others were injured when a van they were travelling in fell in a ditch after being hit by a truck on Netrang-Movi Road in Bharuch district on Wednesday morning.
The deceased and the injured worked at a popular fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) company’s plant at Jhagadia GIDC estate and were returning home in a van after completing their night shift.
The deceased workers were identified as Sonika Vasava (22), Pravina Vasava (18), Jyotsana Vasava (18), Chandrika Vasava (23) and Tiras Vasava (21). They were all residents of Bilatha, Palsi, Movi and Mothia villages of Netrang taluka.

Bharuch/Surat: The Covid-19 situation in the industrial district of Bharuch continues to be grim with infections on the rise in rural areas.
As on May 8, there were on 1,644 active cases in the district, taking the total numbers since the outbreak of pandemic to 7,979.
On Sunday, Bharuch district clocked the highest number of single-day cases with 248 testing positive.
While official records still maintain 77 deaths, Covid-designated crematoriums, graveyards and burial places continue to be overwhelmed with dead bodies.
At the Covid crematorium on the banks of Narmada River near Golden Bridge, nearly 900 bodies have been cremated. On Saturday and Sunday alone, final rites of at least 100 bodies were done here, according to the records of the crematorium.
