University of California victim of ransomware attack

© iStockphoto The University of California (UC) said Wednesday that it was the victim of a ransomware attack. The state university system said in a statement published to its website UCNet, that its institution, along with several other government agencies, private companies and other schools have been involved in an attack through the use of Accellion, a secure filing transfer company.  “An unauthorized individual appears to have copied and transferred UC files by exploiting a vulnerability in Accellion’s file transfer service,” according to UC.  ADVERTISEMENT The school system said it reported the incident to federal law enforcement, took measures to contain it and has begun an investigation.

Molson Coors beer production disrupted by massive hack

© iStockphoto Molson Coors’s beer production has been disrupted by a massive hack, the company said Thursday. The brewer, which makes Miller and Coors products, said in filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission that it experienced a “systems outage that was caused by a cybersecurity incident.” The company said it had “leading forensic information technology firms and legal counsel” to assist their investigation, and is working to get its systems up as quickly as possible. ADVERTISEMENT Molson Coors further said that it is actively managing the cybersecurity incident, but noted “it has caused and may continue to cause a delay or disruption to parts of the Company’s business, including its brewery operations, production, and shipments.”

Hacker claims to have stolen files from law firm tied to Trump: WSJ

By Jordan Williams - 02/16/21 09:28 PM EST   A hacker is claiming to have stolen files from prominent law firm Jones Day, The Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday. The files were posted to the dark web, according to the Journal, and included some documents that were reviewed by the newspaper. One memo was reportedly addressed to a judge and marked “confidential mediation brief,” while another is a cover letter for “confidential documents.” The Journal reported it couldn’t immediately confirm the documents authenticity. ADVERTISEMENT The hacker told the newspaper that they first reached out to the law firm on Feb. 3 to inform it that its network had been hacked, but it hadn’t responded as of Tuesday.
