Second wave of pandemic has put a strain on burials and crematoriums across the country
Cemeteries have started using the services of the volunteers to coordinate the work of burials to cope with the piling bodies of Covid-19 patients.
Synopsis
A crematorium east of Delhi built funeral pyres in its parking lot. A similar situation was seen in Aurangabad where 9 bodies were burnt at the same time.
Sewri Christian Cemetery, the largest in Mumbai, recorded 13 burials in a single day on April 10, and eight of the bodies buried were Covid-19 patients. In the last 40 years this is the single largest day burials, says Jocelyn Pereira, the manager at Sewri Cemetery. ....

Friday, April 23, 2021 Delhi, 23 April - Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) / Doctors Without Borders restarts emergency response amid a surging second wave of COVID-19 in Mumbai in Maharashtra state. The city is very densely populated and the poor and dilapidated hygiene conditions are a triple trigger for the virus to breed, infect and spread rapidly. Daily new infections across the country have reached a peak of over 200,000 in a single day, with a whopping 115.736 new cases reported in Maharashtra state on a single day on 16 April.
“The situation is very worrying,” says Dilip Bhaskaran, C-19 Coordinator for MSF in Mumbai. ....
