COVID-19 in Mumbai: Micro containment zones in city up by 16% in last one week

As COVID-19 cases rise, the number of micro containment zones (MCZ) or active sealed buildings in Mumbai has risen by 16% in one week. According to the new Break-the-chain orders, any housing society or residential tower which has more than five active cases, will be treated as a micro-containment zone.
As per the latest Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, there are 1,198 active MCZs in Mumbai, earlier on April 13, there were only 995 active MCZs.
Senior civic health officials have said that now more and more cluster cases are being reported from the high rises, wherein till last month, the cases that were reported were mainly scattered in their pattern. ....

Maharashtra government has imposed statewide restrictions till May 1 in the wake of the Covid-19 situation. Section 144 is in place across the state. The state is likely to face a strict lockdown for 15 days as Covid-19 cases in the state have continued to surge despite strict restrictions for a week. A demand for a complete lockdown was made by most ministers in the state cabinet meeting held on Tuesday, and CM Uddhav Thackeray is likely to make an official announcement by addressing the state on Wednesday. The state on Tuesday reported 62,097 fresh coronavirus cases, taking the tally to 39,60,359, while 519 more patients succumbed to the infection, said a health department official. MUMBAI: A 51-year-old senior medical officer from Sewri TB hospital died of Covid-19 late on Monday, around 36 hours after posting her parting words on Facebook.
Dr Manisha Jadhav, fondly remembered for her efficient juggling of clinical and administrative roles, became the first doctor from the civic health setup to die of the infection. According to the Indian Medical Association, nearly 18,000 doctors have contracted Covid and 168 have died in the state since last March, but few have been adequately compensated.
On Sunday, Jadhav wrote a Facebook post from her ICU bed saying this could be her last greeting. May be last Good Morning. I may not meet you here on this platform. Take care all. Body dies. Soul doesn t. Soul is immortal, she wrote. ....

A 51-year-old Mumbai doctor died of COVID-19 late on Monday night merely hours after posting a parting message on Facebook. Dr Manisha Jadhav was the Chief Medical Officer at Sewri TB Hospital in the city.
On Sunday, Dr Jadhav, a tuberculosis specialist, made a post on Facebook indicating that she may not survive.
Some 36 hours later, she was dead.
Several doctors and health care professionals have been posting social media messages, expressing their anguish at the unfolding events in the wake of the pandemic and also warning others against dropping their guard. ....
