The Department of Veterans Affairs TOMORROW on International Day of United Nations (UN) Peacekeepers, Australians are encouraged to recognise those who have contributed to global peacekeeping efforts. Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Minister for Defence Personnel Darren Chester said Australia had spent more than 70 years making a significant contribution to worldwide peacekeeping operations. “Australian men and women, often referred to as the ‘Blue Berets’, have participated in United Nations peacekeeping operations for more than 70 years, with the aim of making the world a safer and more peaceful place,” Mr Chester said. “The blue beret, worn by those who serve on United Nations peacekeeping missions, has become a symbol of international peacekeeping. ....
PENDLETON â The pandemic spurred on a surge of telemedicine options, and some medical providers are hoping that trend continues after it is over. Cheryl Pearce, director of physician clinics for St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton, said the hospital had used telehealth in some cases in the past, including for its stroke recovery program. But the clinics were limited on what telehealth they could provide. Rural clinics were unable to be reimbursed for telehealth appointments for Medicare patients in their home, for example. Once the pandemic hit, the Trump administration waived those rules, allowing clinics to continue seeing patients even when everything was shut down. ....
Ben William Heinemeyer, age 83 of Geronimo, passed away at his home on January 27, 2021. Ben was born on a cold winter day on January 24, 1938 in Geronimo, Texas to Etelka (Tschoepe) and Benno Christian Heinimeyer. Ben grew up in Geronimo on which his Grandfather Wilhelm Heinemeyer farmed and had built a home and store on the property. Ben made metal hoops to play basketball with his friends and they also played baseball at the family homeplace. Ben was a graduate of Navarro High School and then received his Bachelorâs and Masterâs Degree in Chemistry from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University). He proudly served his country as a medic in the United States Army National Guard. His first job was with Union carbide and then he enjoyed a long career as a Chemical Engineer with Dow Chemical. After retirement he raised Beefmaster Cattle and restored Antique Tractors. He was passionate about gardening, whether it be vegeta ....
