Twin Cedars will try to put some blue on the Blue Oval when the Sabers head to Madrid for the class 1A track and field State Qualifier tonight. Three running events have the Sabers hopeful for some qualifiers this season. Rylee Dunkin is 2nd right now in the 400, and she is also ranked first in the 800. The Twin Cedars Girls Track and Field Squad won the Bluegrass Conference Track and Field Championship Tuesday night in Lamoni. The Sabers scored 98 points to runner-up Seymour’s 93. Rylee Dunkin was a quadruple gold medalist winning all four events she was in including the 100 meter dash 800 and 1500 meter runs, and long jump. Cheyenne Bruns was also a winner in the open 400. The Saber boys placed 11th with Isiah Arreola placing 6th in the shot put. Both Saber squads will head to the Newton Invitational on Thursday. F ....
Twin Cedars is going to the Bluegrass Conference Track and Field Meet on Tuesday. The girls, while not being one of the favorites for the team title, are confident that they can contend along with several individual titles. Coach Cam Parker tells KNIA/KRLS Sports he is spotlighting a number of events for conference titles this season. Parker: “I think we’ll have a very good chance to compete for our conference championship. For the first time in our last meet at South Tama, I put every girl in four events, and we beat teams like South Tama and Saydel, and competed very well.” ....
It was another productive night on the track for the Twin Cedars girls as the Sabers finished in 3rd place at the Cardinal Invitational on Friday. Rylee Dunkin ran her season best 5:15 in the 1600 finishing in 2nd place. She also won the 800 meter run and placed 2nd in the 100. Cheyenne Bruns set two personal records taking gold in the 400 hurdles in a time of 1:15 and running a PR of 1:04 in the open 400 placing 2nd.
