Acton Police Chief Richard Burrows announced that the Acton Police Department has made progress in its investigation into a pair of incidents in which Acton-Boxborough School Committee members were targeted with racial epithets during public meetings.
Through its ongoing investigation, which began after the first incident on Dec. 17, Acton Police have identified a juvenile male in Arizona as a suspect. Acton Police are working with a local Arizona police department to continue the investigation.
The suspect allegedly also attempted to interrupt an Acton Board of Selectmen s meeting Monday, Jan. 11, but was prevented from doing so by town staff who were able to identify the suspicious behavior and stop multiple attempts by the suspect to be disruptive.
ACTON People in Acton and Boxborough are saying no to racism following a virtual school committee meeting in which an anonymous troll posted racist and vulgar comments deeply upsetting two Black board members.
About 90 minutes into a meeting of the Acton-Boxborough Regional School Committee, the anonymous poster used the Q & A function to write the ugly remarks. The comments were only visible to committee members, including its only Black members, Kyra Wilson Cook and Evelyn Abayaah, but were later shared on social media, sparking outrage in the community and leading the Acton Board of Selectmen to hold an emergency meeting the following day, denouncing the incident and calling for a hate crime investigation.

ACTON, MA Local officials are condemning a series of racist messages posted during an Acton-Boxborough School Committee meeting held over Zoom on Thursday night.
The vulgar and hateful, racist messages were sent to the School Committee members, according to a statement Friday from the Acton Board of Selectmen. The Selectmen were asking Acton police to investigate the incident as a potential hate crime. While it is our understanding that the members of the public did not see the hateful messages due to the correctly configured security and privacy settings, nonetheless, bad actors attended this virtual meeting and used the meeting to send these terrible messages to the school committee members, the Board of Selectmen statement read in part. We are committed to a transparent process, and we will provide updates to the public on that investigation when available and
