Acton has received a $60,000 grant from the state Department of Housing and Community Development to address pandemic-related challenges among businesses in the Great Road Commercial Corridor.
According to a release, the town applied for the grant, through the Local Rapid Recovery Planning Program, in December. The goal is to develop a tailored Local Rapid Recovery Plan addressing Acton’s unique challenges. Recovery Plans can include a range of projects, such as infrastructure improvements, marketing and promotion, bike/pedestrian improvements, and façade and/or storefront signage enhancements. This is another example of how we are working tirelessly to support our businesses in Acton, Town Manager John Mangiaratti said. I look forward with working with Land Use Economic Development Director Matthew Selby, Planning Director Kristen Guichard and the Economic Development Committee and other stakeholders on this new initiative.

ACTON, MA Acton is welcoming its first Sustainability Director, Andrea Becerra. Acton s Sustainability Office was created after a resolution was passed in the 2020 Town Meeting.
Becerra worked on the Natural Resources Defense Council for more than five years before coming to Acton. During her time on the council, Becerra focused on various things from communication strategies to build support for the U.S. Clean Power Plan, to advocating for water-smart policies across the Americas. Following the recent Special Town Meeting vote to adopt a resolution declaring a climate emergency, coupled with the Select Board s long-standing goal of sustainability, I am excited to have Andrea on board as Acton s first Sustainability Director to help oversee sustainability programs and initiatives in Acton, Town Manager John Mangiaratti said.

Acton Police Chief Richard Burrows announced that the Acton Police Department has made progress in its investigation into a pair of incidents in which Acton-Boxborough School Committee members were targeted with racial epithets during public meetings.
Through its ongoing investigation, which began after the first incident on Dec. 17, Acton Police have identified a juvenile male in Arizona as a suspect. Acton Police are working with a local Arizona police department to continue the investigation.
The suspect allegedly also attempted to interrupt an Acton Board of Selectmen s meeting Monday, Jan. 11, but was prevented from doing so by town staff who were able to identify the suspicious behavior and stop multiple attempts by the suspect to be disruptive.
