During and after the 2020 election Black women were heralded as the, “backbone of democracy” by many Democrats. Their organizing efforts and the support they galvanized were crucial to President Joe Biden’s victory and Democrats regaining power in the U.S. Senate.
Their efforts in Georgia gained national attention, but Black women also played an essential role leading up to and following Michigan’s 2020 election.
Early on, the Biden Harris campaign zeroed in on the city of Detroit. Many believed President Trump’s narrowest nationwide margin of victory in 2016, was partially attributable to a depressed turnout in Wayne County the state’s most populous and bluest county. Blind River councillor Betty Ann Dunbar stepped down as chair of the Blind River Development Corporation on Monday following the findings of Blind River Integrity Commissioner Tony Fleming.
Fleming says a complaint of a possible breach of the Code of Conduct was made following a September Zoom meeting where a presenter identified as SM in the report felt insulted by Dunbar sighing and rolling her eyes during the presentation.
The complaint alleged that Dunbar engaged in harassing behaviour towards SM such as generating additional work, having higher quality expectations, and making harsher comments related to their work.
It was also determined the two had a rocky work and personal history.

Milner, along with Jesse Williams and Abby Stanley of Sound Running, Craig Rice of Portland Track, Blake Bolden of Drake Relays, and Nick Dwyer and Max Paquette of the Ed Murphey Classic plan to host a formal track season, running from May to August 2021. Athletes will compete against each other for prize money through a point system at six established meets and one new event the Iowa High Performance.
As the
schedule stands now, the series will kick off with the Track Meet in Los Angeles on May 14, 2021. The next event will be the Portland Track Festival on May 29, followed two days later by the inaugural Iowa High Performance meet in Des Moines on May 31. The next event will be the Music City Carnival on June 5 in Nashville.
