House Republicans have sought to change the narrative on the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol by pro-Trump protesters, claiming that Speaker Nancy Pelosi is “ultimately responsible for the breakdown of security at the Capitol.”
But their arguments overstate the role of the House speaker in overseeing the security of the Capitol and rely on speculation about Pelosi’s involvement and knowledge about intelligence warnings for which they have not provided any proof.
Republican Rep. Jim Banks said that Pelosi, as speaker, “has more control and authority and responsibility over the leadership of the Capitol Police than anyone else in the United States Capitol” and therefore, “is ultimately responsible for the breakdown of security at the Capitol that happened on Jan. 6.” The speaker does not oversee security of the U.S. Capitol. But in a filing Tuesday, the Justice Department dismissed Mr. Brooks‘ argument, saying the lawmaker’s conduct was comparable to campaign activity, which falls outside his official duties as a member of Congress.
“The record indicates that Brooks’s appearance at the Jan. 6 rally was campaign activity, and it is no part of the business of the United States to pick sides among candidates in federal elections,” the Justice Department said.
A spokesperson for Mr. Brooks did not respond to a request for comment.
Mr. Trump, his son and Mr. Giuliani have all moved to dismiss the lawsuit.
The case has been assigned to Judge Amit Mehta, an Obama appointee. ....

Republic Act No. 10585 was passed in the House of Representatives and the Senate on Feb. 6, 2013 mandating the conversion of the CCSPC into a state university to be known as the Cotabato State University (CotSU).
Ministry of Basic, Higher, and Technical Education (MHBTE) of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Minister Mohagher Mohammad Iqbal said gaining the University status is “a dream unleashed for decades.”
“[It] opens a window of hope for the larger part of the BARMM populace in the Central Mindanao who have been deprived of higher education caused by lack of financial resources, armed conflict, and other similar reasons,” Iqbal said during the inauguration of CotSU on Thursday, July 22. ....
