The state Legislature extended the moratorium to Aug. 31, and the ERAP portal opened June 1.
Now, nearly two months after applications started rolling in, the state is facing questions about why virtually none of the money has been released yet. Meanwhile, the line to receive the funds has grown to 160,000, according to OTDA, and New Yorkers have complained about glitches and delays with the online application system.
“We continue to see very high volumes of applications . and we are trying to get the state to address those problems. It’s the third week of July and money hasn’t been out the door,” said Sen. Brian Kavanagh, D-Manhattan, who sponsored an eviction moratorium and rent relief package in the Senate, which was originally passed in December 2020.
