Lima council hears development grant proposals By Trevor Hubert - [email protected] LIMA Lima City Council is still considering how it will split money among 18 proposals to fund for affordable housing and community growth activities. Lima City Council held a special public hearing Monday night to share updates about its five-year consolidated plan, which is currently in its second year of roll out. The meeting marked the first in-person hearing since the start of the pandemic. The focus on the plan was discussing allocation of funds from two annual grants from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Community Development Block Grant helps fund affordable housing and community growth activities, and HOME Investment Partnerships is only focused on affordable housing. ....
Organizations hear about applying for CDBG/Home funds By Sam Shriver - [email protected] LIMA The City of Lima will get about as much in Community Development Block Grants and HOME program funds as they did the previous year $1,086,823 in CDBG money and $309,986 in HOME program funding. Susan Crotty, Community Development Director for the City of Lima conducted a virtual information session on Wednesday, to talk about how organizations can apply for those funds. “According to the regulations for the use of CDBG funds they can be used for community development, economic development and housing activities, which is for a lot of us that assist low to moderate-income persons or households,” Crotty said. “HOME funds are only used for housing activities and they have to be used to assist low to moderate-income persons which means households with income less than 80% of the area median income currently that’s $53,700 for a family of four.” ....

Lima council approves tax abatement for Ohio Theatre By Sam Shriver - [email protected] LIMA The new owner of the Ohio Theatre is getting a tax break, thanks to Lima City Council. On Monday night, the council approved a 12 year 50% property tax abatement for the property at 122 W. North St. in Lima. The new owner, PLAYWITHYOURFOOD LLC, wants to invest $845,000 to renovate the Ohio Theatre and make it into a dinner theater venue, bakery/cafe, catering venue and bar. Repairs are needed to the roof, plaster, paint, carpeting and fabrics. New electrical, plumbing and gas lines will also be needed, and the HVAC system will need upgraded. A commercial kitchen will also need to be built. ....
