Ludhiana: A group of 16 people assaulted the in-charge of Jalaldiwal police post, Raikot, in Gobindgarh, Sadar Raikot, on Thursday night when he, along with a constable, reached there on receiving a complaint. ASI Gursewak Singh said in his police complaint, “Amandeep Kaur of Gobindgarh had called up the police control room, saying her in-laws were harassing her. After receiving the information from the control room, I along with constable Harminder Singh went to the spot at 9.45pm. On reaching there, we saw Amandeep and her parents standing outside the house of accused Harbans Singh. Amandeep said Harbans was her uncle (brother of her father-in-law) and that he and other family members have taken away her son and thrown her out of the house.” ....

Tribune photo Tribune News Service Amritsar, May 2 In yet another major haul of illicit liquor, the Amritsar rural police on Sunday busted eight illegal working stills. The police nabbed five bootleggers, identified as Sarwan Singh, Angrez Singh, Sanjay, Avtar Singh and Resham Singh, all residents of Boparai Khurd village falling under the Lopoke police station here. The police confiscated 1.18 lakh kg of lahan (raw material for brewing illicit liquor) besides 390 litres of illicit liquor during the raid. The police also seized 95 drums of 50 litre capacity each, four LPG gas cylinders and 20 tarpaulins from the spot. This is the seventh illicit liquor bust in the past two months. ....

The decision was taken during a meeting held today by prominent Sikh personalities led by Bhai Ranjit Singh. Sukhraj Singh, son of victim of the Behbal Kalan firing incident, was also present. Bhai Ranjit Singh appealed to the community to register their protest and anger against the “flawed” judgment by burning its copies on April 30. Claiming that the organisations would burn the copies of the verdict at all district headquarters, the ex-jathedar said the main event would be held at Kotkapura Chowk. ....
