Already known on the state’s environment map for its ‘Ranmala Model’, the village 54 km from
Pune city, near Rajgurunagar, took another green leap on Wednesday shedding ageold rites of immersing ashes of the dead in the river, instead using it as fertiliser for new saplings planted in memoriam.
The move has enhanced Ranmala’s contribution to ecology, as it already houses a ‘
Smritivan’ (memorial forest) with over 25,000 trees to commemorate births, marriages and deaths over the past decade. Now, villagers have resolved to stop ....
