Canada just scratching RNG surface: report
Despite rapid growth over the last decade, Canada is just scratching the surface of its biogas potential, the Canadian Biogas Association (CBA) says in a new report released May 14.
Between 2011 and 2020, the number of operating biogas facilities across the country jumped by nearly 50%, and there are now 279 operating from coast to coast. Collectively, they are capturing methane from agricultural waste, from landfills and green bin recycling programs and from municipal wastewater treatment facilities, and turning it into 196 MW of clean electricity and 6mn GJ of renewable natural gas (RNG) every year. ....

650+ Groups tell Congress: Leave dirty power out of CES - Friends of the Earth

WASHINGTON More than 650 national advocacy and grassroots groups sent a letter today calling on Congress to develop a truly clean, renewable, and just energy standard for electricity as part of an evolving infrastructure package.
To meet its climate goals, the Biden administration is expected to back a national Clean Electricity Standard (CES), which some advocates argue can pass under existing budget reconciliation rules.
But existing CES proposals from prominent Democrats allow for filthy and false solutions such as fracked gas, carbon capture and storage, and factory farm biogas, warn groups including Indigenous Environmental Network, Friends of the Earth, Center for Biological Diversity, Food & Water Watch, Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, California Environmental Justice Alliance, Oil Change International, and The Democracy Collaborative. ....

President Biden's Tax-and-Spend Plan Expands Federal Power, Not Jobs

Toggle open close
On March 31, the Biden Administration released details on its “American Jobs Plan.” Containing $2.25 trillion in new spending, $400 billion in tax credits, and $2.75 trillion in tax increases, if passed as proposed, the plan would be among the largest pieces of legislation in American history.REF The sprawling nature of the proposal, which includes taxes, transportation infrastructure, schools, health benefits, economic incentives, and more, makes the package difficult to analyze and summarize for public debate.
This has become standard practice in Washington: Leading Members of Congress bundle disparate policy measures into a handful of bloated legislative vehicles per session, and deem them “must pass” in order to pressure rank-and-file Members to vote in favor of them regardless of their specific policy concerns.REF ....
