With instances of mucormycosis, also known as the black fungus, coming to light among covid-19 patients, the
Karnataka government has asked the Centre to supply 25,000 doses of Amphotericin B.
“During the video conference Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan had with his counterparts in six states, we put forth a demand for 25,000 (doses of) Amphotericin B,” Health Minister Dr K
Sudhakar told reporters here.
The minister said due to the excess use of steroids and diabetes, cases of black fungus are being noticed as post ....

IISc developing oxygen concentrator, vaccine for Covid patients

CoWin shows vaccination successful without giving jab
The premier Bengaluru-based Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is developing a Covid vaccine, informed Karnataka Health Minister K. Sudhakar on Thursday, which has reportedly proven to be more successful than existing vaccines.
The IISc vaccine has reportedly shown a more significant neutralising effect than existing vaccines like Covishield or Covaxin and it can be stored at a room temperature of up to 30 degrees.
According to the IISC website, vaccine production would cost Rs. 15 crore. The aim is to create a vaccine that can be mass-produced quickly to protect frontline health workers, medical staff, senior citizens, and people with co-morbidities like cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. ....

Karnataka just two hours before its arrival in Jolarpettai railway station, it was a moment of pride for the 36-year-old. A resident of Hennur Bande in East Bengaluru, Gireesh was well aware of city’s urgent need for oxygen to save hundreds of covid-19 patients.
At sharp 7.05 am, the train – with six cryogenic containers carrying medical oxygen - arrived at the station from Tatanagar in Jamshedupur (Jharkhand). The Bengaluru divison took over the train in Jollarpettai station at 7.05 am. Gireesh, the man behind the operations, brought the train to Whitefield sharp at 8.52 am, clocking more than 80-kmph. K Sudhakar: Details sought about 'black fungus' among Covid-19 patients | Bengaluru News

The Karnataka minister K Sudhakar was replying to a query on media reports that the cases of black fungus or mucormycosis, a rare fungal infection, are on the rise among Covid-19 patients in some states, including Karnataka.
BENGALURU: The Karnataka government has sought information from health experts about black fungus being detected among Covid patients in the country, Health Minister K Sudhakar said on Wednesday.
Addressing reporters at Chikkaballapura, he said, I had a discussion with the technical advisory committee and the clinicians to submit a detailed report on black fungus in two days. Based on that, we will take a call. ....
