By Vicki Henderson KILLED: Serjeant Phillip Scott WEAKNESSES in intelligence sharing among the Armed Forces in Afghanistan may have played a part in the death of a soldier in an explosion, an inquest has heard. Serjeant Phillip Scott, of 3rd Battalion, The Rifles, died in Sangin province on November 5, last year, when he stepped on an improvised explosive device (IED) while on patrol. The inquest, held at Richmond Town Hall, heard that he might never have entered the building where the blast occured if intelligence about a previous explosion at the site had been passed to senior officers. Coroner Rob Turnbull yesterday criticised information sharing among the Armed Forces, saying intelligence should be passed on as a habit and not “dragged out” after a serious incident. ....

He was 88. Upton died due to complications from lung cancer, the school announced.
