Amazon says its tech, market position, and reach help partners like Splunk and Snowflake thrive.
But some say working with AWS carries risks: Amazon doesn t hesitate to compete with its own allies.
Amazon s cloud unit has, over the last 15 years, built itself up into the dominant cloud computing player in the market. Amazon Web Services is now a $54 billion-a-year business, and far ahead of rivals like Microsoft and Google in market share a dynamic most recently underscored by this earnings season.
But no cloud is an island, and AWS didn t get there alone. Thailand s spending on public cloud services is expected to surge 31.7% year-on-year to 26.8 billion baht in 2021, in tandem with strong growth seen worldwide due to the pandemic, says global tech research firm Gartner.
The company indicated that spending in Thailand could grow 28.2% to 34.4 billion baht in 2022. Last year, 20.3 billion baht was spent on public cloud services.
At the global level, spending is forecast to rise 23.1% year-on-year to $332.3 billion in 2021, up from $270 billion in 2020 and it is expected to hit $397.4 billion next year.
The pandemic has stimulated chief information officers (CIOs) to move mission critical workloads from on-site to the cloud, said Sid Nag, research vice president at Gartner. ....

Mumbai, April 29 : The end-user spending on Public Cloud services in India will reach $4.4 billion in 2021, growing 31.4 per cent as compared to last year, a Gartner report said on Thursday.
For the first time, spending on SaaS and cloud management and security services will experience double digit growth in India.
SaaS has been pivotal in supporting the sudden increase in the mobile workforce, as well as customers, in 2020. Learning from this , Indian CIOs will continue to build on the above trend as they move towards a composable business environment, said Sid Nag, research vice president at Gartner. ....
