were quite a number of newspaper adverts by successful men and women congratulating you on your 80th birthday celebration recently. Many of them described you as a mentor and a tutor. Were you surprised by that outpouring of love?
I’m still puzzled up till now as to how I can get all their contacts to reach out to every one of them. I’m amazed they came up with all the newspapers adverts – the trouble and the expenses. I’m really overwhelmed by their gestures. All I know is that in those days we worked together as one team. Everybody tried their best to do their bit. In the end, I want to believe, we achieved something for the state and particularly for the public service. We were proud of the public service that we had in Lagos State. We had a good heritage left ....

Hanoi (VNA) –
Vietnam, as the rotating President of the United Nations Security Council
(
UNSC) for April, held a ministerial open debate on April 8, focusing on “Mine
action and sustaining peace: Stronger partnerships for better delivery”.
The event, held both
virtually and in person under the chair of Vietnamese Minister of Foreign
Affairs Bui Thanh Son, was attended by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres,
along with ministers, deputy ministers, ambassadors, and heads of missions of
the UNSC member states.

ASEAN, Australia discuss cooperation orientations | ASEAN

Jakarta (VNA) – The 11th meeting of the
ASEAN-Australia Joint Cooperation Committee
was held in the form of a videoconference on April 8, to review the bilateral
cooperation in the previous year and discuss orientations in the coming time.
Ambassador
Nguyen Hai Bang, head of Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to ASEAN, in his capacity
as chair of the Initiative for ASEAN Integration (IAI) Task Force, spoke highly
of Australia’s aid worth 2.8 million USD for the implementation of the IAI Work
Plan III (2016-2020).
He
requested Australia to further assist ASEAN in carrying out the IAI Work Plan ....

Bauchi bye-election: DSS, EFCC detain PDP chieftain over 'vote buying'

There was tension during Saturday’s bye-election in Dass Constituency in Bauchi State as officials of the Directorate of State Security Service (DSS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) detained a former Head of Service in the State, and top People’s Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart, Mr Abdon Dalla Gin, for over five hours.
The problem started when DSS and EFCC officials stopped Gin, the Kaigama of Dass, as he was leaving his Social Welfare Bon Dot polling unit shortly after casting his vote at about 9:30 am and took him to the police station.
Gin was initially approached by some youth who had followed him to his car to greet him after granting a short interview to journalists on his impression of the election so far. ....
