FULTON â The Fulton-G. Ray Bodley High School varsity girls lacrosse team remained focused on their shared objective throughout a gap of more than 700 days between games. The collective commitment over the past year has been on full display through the early portion of the spring season for the Red Raiders, who returned all but one player that expected to compete in 2020 before the state canceled the season due to COVID-19 concerns. With their eyes on capturing the programâs elusive Section 3 championship last spring, players and coaches organized virtual meetings on Google to prepare for a season that ultimately never came. Many players continued to meet voluntarily afterward, pursued training opportunities while facilities were shut down, and took solo chances to play in summer and fall tournaments. ....
But for the Mexico varsity girls swim team, it simply meant there was more time to train. The Tigers practiced in double sessions throughout the recent spring recess, combining for four hours per day in the pool with some dryland exercises, aiming to utilize every minute of their condensed Fall II season that took months of waiting to commence. Mexico entered the week with a 3-0 record in dual meets, including the programâs first win over perennial power Jamesville-DeWitt since 2007. âI think once we finally got in, I think we were all ready to work and show what we can do in the short amount of time that we have,â said junior standout, Carolyn Zedack, one of Mexicoâs four returning state qualifiers from the fall 2019 season. ....

The Rocky Mount-Franklinton matchup in the Big East 3A Conference did not get off to a smooth start. Both teams struggled to move the ball early and each team committed turnovers. In the second quarter, however, Rocky Mount started the find its footing and pulled away from the Red Rams. Rocky Mount won the matchup by a score of 26-9. The game s first points came on a missed snap by the Franklinton punting unit. The ball sailed over the head of the Franklinton punter and he wisely dove on it in the end zone for a safety. Despite missing an opportunity to score a touchdown off of the Franklinton mistake, Rocky Mount put together a big drive following the safety kickoff. ....
