BOWIE, MD After taking a year off because of COVID-19 precautions, athletes, residents, and members of the Bowie Police Department gathered Wednesday morning to support the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics.
Special Olympics Maryland fans will get to show support in person this weekend. Athletes are busy preparing for this year s summer games. Faith McLuckie, 25, knows all about words of encouragement. She can cheer and she can lead, combining both as a cheerleader in this year’s summer games. It’s helped me to get confidence, she said.It s confidence gained while up at the podium. It spreads the joy in my heart, she said.Athletes like McLuckie nailed their speeches as part of the athlete leadership program kicking off this year’s games. She even leads chants with dad, James McLuckie, who is just excited to see her grow. She knows that her voice is important. And she knows not only is her voice important, that she contributes to society, she contributes to the world, and she can help others, James McLuckie said.Helping others as she’s done for years before, Faith McLuckie is also a captain for young cheerleaders in the making. It’s going to be a lot of fun, she said
The Baltimore County Police Department will start the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run at 10 this morning. The three-mile run will begin and end at the public safety building in Towson.
