Erie County courts: District judge reinstates homicide charge

A magisterial district judge has reinstated a criminal homicide charge that Erie police filed against a city man in a fatal shooting in late September and held the charge for court.
Erie 3rd Ward District Judge Tom Carney recently reinstated the homicide charge against 22-year-old Tajh D. Easter that Carney had dismissed following Easter s preliminary hearing in mid-January after the Erie County District Attorney s Office filed a motion asking Carney to reconsider the decision.
Easter is charged with 20-year-old Erie resident Duane E. Buckner III in the fatal shooting of 25-year-old Dayquan Holloway and the wounding of another 25-year-old man at a residence in the 800 block of Walnut Street where a house party was taking place on Sept. 27. Buckner is also charged with homicide and other offenses and was held for court on all charges following the Jan. 14 preliminary hearing. ....

Erwin Utilities three steps closer to offering broadband to all Unicoi County residents


Nearly 300 homes in Unicoi County could soon have access to fiber optic broadband, which would mean the high-speed internet service would be available to everyone in the county.
The Erwin Utilities Authority already provides fiber optic broadband to all of its customers, but there were three areas in Unicoi County serviced by other electric systems.
After requests for service in those areas, the utility authority began the process of approval to provide broadband outside its designated coverage area.
Much like cable companies, utility companies have boundaries within which their services can be offered.
“There’s a plan in place for all the county (to have broadband) except three pockets and we don’t think it’s fair to the residents there,” President and CEO of Erwin Utilities Lee Brown said last week to the Town of Unicoi aldermen meeting. ....
