UGA slavery symposium unites historians, performers for racial justice discussion

The University of Georgia hosted its first Symposium on Recognition, Reconciliation and Redress on Friday and Saturday, a series of presentations and performances dedicated to discussing the historical and contemporary impacts of slavery on the university and the city of Athens.
The event brought together more than 50 speakers and participants from all over the country, particularly the Athens area.
This yearâs symposium was organized by its eight-member planning committee, many of whom are educators and researchers connected to the university.
âWe believe the collective knowledge about and experiences of racism and white supremacy held among those who have come together as part of this symposium must play a larger role in the ways that the University of Georgia shapes its future,â said symposium planning committee member Amy Andrews during introductory remarks Friday morning. ....

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) â April is Fair Housing Month, and the City of Tallahassee with the Big Bend Housing Partnership and other community partners will host a virtual Fair Housing Virtual Symposium on Wednesday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event is free and will include four virtual panel discussions with local leaders and subject matter experts as they tackle topics ranging from housing rights to preventing housing discrimination.
Sessions include:

Spring 2021 HiPerGator Symposium highlights artificial intelligence research
Winners of UF Research s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research Catalyst Fund presented how they are pursuing multidisciplinary applications of artificial intelligence across the university at the Spring 2021 HiPerGator Symposium Tuesday.
Presenters covered a wide range of topics, sharing how they are using AI to tackle issues like uncovering decades of ecological change to detecting online students who are at risk of dropping out. In the afternoon, attendees and presenters interacted in Q-and-A panels. Roughly 275 people attended the event.
