I am a member of the Black Alliance for Peace, and I’m also co-editor of the African revolutionary blog Hood Communists. I’m very honored to speak a bit about Mumia Abu-Jamal and his present influence on this movement era.
Mumia once said that prison is a second-by-second assault on the soul, a day-to-day degradation of the self, an oppressive steel-and-brick umbrella that transforms seconds into hours and hours into days. In Mumia’s case, the state of Pennsylvania is deeply invested in ensuring that there will be no more days for him. ....

MUMIA ABU-JAMAL TO HAVE HEART SURGERY
We have learned that Mumia Abu-Jamal, the world renown veteran Black Panther, political prisoner and radio journalist, had heart pain over the weekend. He was rushed to the hospital, and is expected to undergo heart surgery tomorrow, April 15, 2021.
We demand that:
1.
Before surgery, Mumia be allowed to call his wife, Wadiya Jamal; his longtime supporter Pam Africa; his chosen doctor, Dr. Ricardo Alvarez; and his Spiritual Advisor, Mark Taylor.
2.
Mumia not be shackled to his hospital bed, as is the rule in Pennsylvania and across the United States.
3.
Mumia’s immediate release of this innocent man from prison. ....

In memoriam: Romaine "Chip" Fitzgerald lives on! – Liberation News

After 51 long years persisting in the corrupt California prison system, former Black Panther Romaine “Chip” Fitzgerald passed away on March 29 at the age of 71. The cause of death has not been disclosed. Fitzgerald joined the Southern California Chapter of the Black Panther Party in 1969 as a youth recently released from the California Youth Authority. At the time of his death, he was the longest-held political prisoner from the Black Panther Party after his capture by the California Highway Patrol.
Fitzgerald was born on April 11, 1949, and grew up in the Watts/Willowbrook area of Los Angeles. His mother was a domestic worker from Louisiana who taught him the skills of gardening, knitting and crocheting. His father was a worker with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, originally from Oklahoma. ....
