Staff Writer ELKINS The Randolph County Commission voted unanimously to form a new E911 Advisory Board during its regular meeting Thursday at the James Cain Courthouse Annex. The new board will be appointed by the county and will have six members, including at least one fire service provider, one law enforcement provider, one emergency medical provider (hospital related), and one emergency services provider. The 911 director will serve as ex officio of the board. “This is something that was brought up in a recent meeting we had with members of our first responders,” said commission President Mark Scott. “It was something they wanted to see done and I think what it will do is add another layer of advisory of capacity for our system. ....

(KPLC) - Veterans can get vaccinated Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at a walk-in clinic at the VA Community Based Outpatient Center. The center is located at 3601 Gerstner Memorial Dr. in Lake Charles, and the J&J (single dose) & Moderna (2 doses required) will be available for those 18 and older. VA medical centers around the country are expanding their rules on who is eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine. In a push to get more shots in arms, the VA is ramping up efforts to get veterans vaccinated for COVID-19. ....
Staff Writer ELKINS The Randolph County Office of Emergency Management is asking citizens to make sure that each of their properties, whether a residence or business, properly display the numbers of its assigned 911 address. “It’s up to the owner of homes and businesses, or occupants if they are renting, to put three- to four-inch reflective numbers that are visible from the road on their property,” said Cindy Hart, director of Randolph County OEM. “This is so that if emergency responders need to come to your home or business, they will be able to locate where the problem is at.” ....
