ELKINS Active COVID-19 cases doubled in Randolph County in the past week, and health officials are growing increasingly concerned.
A total of 53 positive cases in Randolph County were confirmed Monday, which is double that of the 26 reported last week.
“Only three of the active cases are above the 50 year-old age group,” said Bonnie Woodrum, the Randolph-Elkins Health Department’s infectious disease specialist. “We have some in the 40s, but we also have a 1-year-old, a 3-year-old, a 9-year-old, and an 11-year-old. The public sees that it’s spring and the rush is over, but I worry our numbers will go up as people break out a little bit more.” ....

ELKINS With active COVID-19 cases on the rise once again in Randolph County, local health officials are asking citizens to take extra precautions when out and about in public.
Since hitting single digits with six active cases in the county back on April 4, numbers have started to increase in the wrong direction. Last week the total number of active cases had risen to 13 and this week’s total is at 20, with possibly more to come, according to Bonnie Woodrum, Randolph Elkins Health Department’s infectious disease specialist.
“People think it’s over,” said Woodrum. “The number of cases continues to creep up and we had about 20 this morning, plus some more that came in. So we all need to continue to take precautions.” ....
