In honor of Black History Month, the Multicultural Center at College of the Canyons will be hosting a series of virtual events throughout February that highlight and celebrate Black culture.
“We are very excited to share an eclectic lineup of events to celebrate Black History Month with our students, staff and community,” said Flavio Medina-Martin, director of diversity and inclusion at the college. “We hope that the virtual nature of these events encourages attendees to attend a variety of events throughout the month.”

Multicultural Center At COC To Host Virtual Events During Black History Month

The Multicultural Center at College of the Canyons is set to host a series of virtual events in February in honor of Black History Month.
The events are expected to be held throughout February, highlighting and celebrating Black culture, according to a statement from COC.
“We are very excited to share an eclectic lineup of events to celebrate Black History Month with our students, staff and community,” said Flavio Medina-Martin, director of diversity and inclusion at COC. “We hope that the virtual nature of these events encourages attendees to attend a variety of events throughout the month.”

COC Focuses On Training For Essential Workforce Roles During COVID-19 Pandemic
While College of the Canyons has been largely limited to remote instruction during the fall 2020 semester, the school has been able to offer in-person instruction for more than 50 essential infrastructure class sections.
The college followed the necessary state and county protocols in order to receive the necessary clearance to begin hosting on-campus classes for students enrolled in a variety of essential infrastructure programs.
Those programs include welding, culinary arts, automotive technician, medical laboratory technician, emergency medical technician (EMT), land surveying, construction management and technology, and nursing.
A number of students have secured employment as a result of the hands-on instruction and our nursing graduates and 37 EMT graduates will qualify for national licensure examinations. ....

Although College of the Canyons was limited to remote instruction during the fall 2020 semester, it was clear that not everything could be properly taught over Zoom.
Students enrolled in essential infrastructure programs such welding, culinary arts, automotive technician, medical laboratory technician, emergency medical technician (EMT), land surveying, construction management and technology, and nursing need hands-on training to be prepared to enter the workforce.
