The Pentagon targeted Al-Qaeda-affiliated Shebabs in Somalia on Friday. After a six-month hiatus, this is the second strike in four days under new US President Joe Biden.
The US military carried out an airstrike in Somalia on Friday against Shabab jihadists affiliated with Al-Qaeda, the second in four days after a six-month hiatus, the Pentagon has learned.
The military command for Africa (Africom) “today carried out an air strike in the vicinity of Qeycad”, in the province of Galmudug, 500 km northeast of Mogadishu, a door told AFP. – Pentagon speech, Cindi King. THE TOPLINE: The U.S. military carried out an airstrike in Somalia on Friday, its second such action in a week after a months-long gap in strikes.
In a statement, Pentagon spokesperson Cindi King said U.S. forces conducted a strike against militants from the al Qaeda-linked al Shabaab terrorist group near Qeycad, Galmudug.
Limited information: U.S. forces, which were largely withdrawn from Somalia during the Trump administration, were conducting a remote advise and assist mission in support of designated Somali partner forces, King said, adding there were no U.S. forces accompanying Somali forces during this operation. ....

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The US military conducted an air strike in Somalia on Friday against Al Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab jihadists, the second in four days after a six-month hiatus, the Pentagon said.
The US military command for Africa (AFRICOM), conducted an airstrike against Al-Shabaab in the vicinity of Qeycad in Galmudug province 300 miles (500 kilometers) north of the capital Mogadishu, Pentagon spokeswoman Cindi King told AFP.
The strike was carried out by a drone and there were no US forces on the ground, King said, adding no further details could be provided. ....

US airstrike in Somalia is 2nd this week against al-Shabab

WASHINGTON (AP) For the second time this week, U.S. forces on Friday conducted an airstrike against the al-Shabab extremist group in Somalia. The earlier strike, on Tuesday, was the first in Somalia since President Joe Biden took office in January.
In a brief statement, the Pentagon said the attack was conducted in support of Somali partner forces, and thus was allowed under existing congressional authorization for the use of military force.
A Pentagon spokeswoman, Cindi King, said the airstrike was coordinated with the Somali government and took place in the Galmudug area in central Somalia, in the vicinity of Qeycad. She said further details would not be released to protect operational security. ....
