Talk About Clyde: Kehres competes in Jr. Miss North America Jeanette Ricker Rae Ann Kehres, 14, who is Jr. Miss Ohio North America, placed as third runner up in competition for the title of Jr. Miss America recently held in Orlando, Florida. To maintain her title of Jr. Miss Ohio North America, Kehres must make monthly appearances and perform community service. Some of the reasons she enjoys participating in pageants, including wearing beautiful dresses, is to meet other girls from across the country. “It also gives me confidence and helps me improve my public speaking,” she said. The most difficult part may be the long road trips taken to competitions, she said, noting her two younger brothers went along. Next week she will compete in her fifth competition, The Nationals, in Nashville,Tennessee. In August she will pass her crown to the new Jr. Miss Ohio North America. ....
Clyde girls nip Port Clinton, 55-49 FROM STAFF REPORTS Port Clinton was unable to cut into Clyde’s lead enough in the fourth quarter, and the Redskins fell to the Fliers, 55-49. Clyde led 26-23 at halftime and pushed the advantage to 41-31 after three quarters. Sidney Hohman had 20 points to lead all scorers, including eight in the fourth quarter. Da’Cariya Lanier led Port Clinton with 16 points, including seven in the fourth quarter, and Olivia Jackson finished with 15 points, six of which came in the final quarter. Margaretta 82, Port Clinton 47 Margaretta took control from the outset and defeated Port Clinton, 82-47. The Polar Bears led 24-11 after one quarter and 48-21 at halftime. ....
The Beacon FROM STAFF REPORTS PORT CLINTON Port Clinton trailed early but rallied in the second quarter to take the lead and held on for a 52-50 win over Huron. The Tigers led 14-7 after the first quarter but the Redskins rallied to take a 24-22 lead into the half. Port Clinton (1-3, 1-1 SBC Bay) led 36-35 after three quarters and outscored Huron, 16-15, in the fourth. It was the first win of the season for the Redskins, who got a game-high 23 points from Da’Cariya Lanier, 12 of which came in the second half. Lanier made five 3-pointers and scored seven points in the fourth quarter. Teammate Olivia Jackson finished with 14 points. ....
