Commissioners continued a discussion, tabled from their March meeting, concerning speeding and public safety concerns along a portion of Marland Heights Road. The commission was asked to look into the issue at the request of a resident at 325 Marland Heights Road. Police Chief Charlie Kush said he had reviewed records and found reports of two incidents in recent years where a vehicle went into the property in question. “Snow was part of one and the other was a DUI,” Kush said. ....

WEIRTON After several months of delays, city officials and local African-American community members met Monday as part of a continuing effort to create a dialogue and address concerns. Pastors from a group of Weirton’s African-American churches, along with other community members, met in the Millsop Community Center with the mayor, city manager, assistant city manager, city attorney and city council. “We greatly appreciate this meeting and we hope to continue meeting in good faith,” Rickey Thompson, who had been among those organizing plans for regular meetings between the groups last year. ....
Managing editor WEIRTON The city’s Finance Committee convened Wednesday, recommending the purchase of several vehicles for Weirton’s Police and Public Works departments. The resolutions for the purchases will go before the full Weirton Council for consideration Monday. One of the purchases was proposed in place a previously approved purchase. In March, council had approved the purchase of a Dodge Ram 2500 4×4 crew cab for the Street Department. Public Works Director Rod Ronsick, explained, however, there was an issue when he went to place the order through the vendor. “They’re no longer taking orders for Dodge Rams,” Rosnick said. ....
