WATERTOWN â District Attorney Kristyna S. Mills doesnât want her light-heartedness toward the legalization of marijuana to be taken as a signal that sheâs not concerned.
âItâs a political thing,â said Charles Donoghue, the city chief of police. âWe enforce the law, so weâre going to do what weâre supposed to do.â
In the same camp is Ms. Mills, whoâs been the Jefferson County District Attorney since 2015. She said she has several grave concerns, but her approach is multi-faceted and aimed at fairness in knowing the law is the law, and now is the time to make a game plan and move on. Sheâs not necessarily for it, but at the same time her office has bigger concerns.

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - It was the publicâs turn to weigh in on the city of Watertownâs police reform plan.
In a virtual discussion Wednesday night, Watertown officials did most of the listening, while city residents did the talking.
âI really think there should be diversity training, and mental health first aid,â one speaker said.
Police Chief Charles Donoghue says he agrees that mental health and diversity training are important for officers, but he says the issue is financial.

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - A transgender Watertown woman has filed a federal lawsuit against Jefferson County Sheriff Colleen OâNeill, Watertown police chief Charles Donoghue and others, claiming she was improperly arrested, and then harassed and sexually assaulted.
DeAnna LeTray, 54, claims in the lawsuit that the abuse took place because she is a transgender woman.
âI never want anyone to go through the abuse I experienced from people that were supposed to protect me,â she said in a statement.
