Watertown trans woman strip-searched, probed, ridiculed by police over 2 misdemeanors, lawsuit says Updated Mar 06, 2021; Watertown, NY A Watertown transgender woman says she was strip-searched, hog-tied and had a wig ripped from her head before being anally probed during a 2017 arrest on two misdemeanors. DeAnna LeTray’s legal case has been championed by Legal Services of Central New York and the New York Civil Liberties Union. She’s now suing Watertown police, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and several officers involved in the incident in federal court. LeTray, 54, says that police and jail deputies humiliated her simply because they couldn’t get over the fact she was born a man and had for nearly a decade identified as a woman. ....
WATERTOWN â Nearly one year after a Watertown womanâs first lawsuit was dismissed, a federal lawsuit has been filed seeking damages for what she alleges was an unlawful arrest nearly four years ago. DeAnna LeTray, through the New York Civil Liberties Union, filed suit Monday in U.S. District Court, Syracuse, against Jefferson County; the city of Watertown; Jefferson County Sheriff Colleen OâNeill; Watertown police officers George Cummings, Samuel White and Virginia Kelly; Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building Administrator Kristopher M. Spencer; county corrections officer Joel Dettmer; Watertown Police Chief Charles P. Donoghue; and four John Does. Ms. LeTray, a 54-year-old transgender woman, first filed suit in state Supreme Court in Jefferson County more than two years ago seeking to have the state Division of Human Rights investigate her alleged claims of unlawful treatment by Watertown police at the public safety building. ....

(WWNY) - A transgender Watertown woman has filed a federal lawsuit against Jefferson County Sheriff Colleen OâNeill, Watertown police chief Charles Donoghue and others, claiming she was improperly arrested, and then harassed and sexually assaulted. DeAnna LeTray, 54, claims in the lawsuit that the abuse took place because she is a transgender woman. âI never want anyone to go through the abuse I experienced from people that were supposed to protect me,â she said in a statement. ....
