Aizawl, April 25 : The Indian Air Force (IAF) would deploy two helicopters to douse the forest fire in Mizoram even as the state s fighters and disaster management personnel are battling the blaze in Lunglei district and its adjoining areas, officials said on Sunday.
IAF spokesperson Wing Commander Ratnakar Singh said the two IAF Mi-17V5 helicopters equipped with Bambi buckets would be positioned to douse the wildfire in Lunglei district and adjoining areas.
Chief Minister Zoramthanga on Sunday sought help from the IAF as well as the locals in dousing the major forest inferno in the mountainous district, which shares borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh. ....

GUWAHATI: The Mizoram government on Sunday sought the help of the Indian Air Force to control a massive wildfire which affected 20 sq km areas in the state’s Lunglei district.
“On the requisition of Mizoram government, the Indian Air Force is deploying two Mi-17V5 helicopters, equipped with Bambi Buckets, to douse the major fire in Lunglei district and adjoining areas,” Shillong-based defence spokesman Wing Commander Ratnakar Singh told this newspaper. ....

The Mizoram government has sought the help of the Indian Air Force to control a major wildfire that has affected an area of 20 sq. km in Lunglei district.
“The IAF is deploying two Mi-17V5 helicopters, equipped with Bambi buckets, on the requisition of the Mizoram government for dousing the fire in Lunglei district and adjoining areas,” Shillong-based Defence spokesperson Wing Commander Ratnakar Singh said on Sunday.
‘People not affected’
Deputy Commissioner Koluthungan A. said the fire broke out on Saturday. “It is spreading fast due to wind and temperature, suddenly flaring up from time to time. We are using all local resources to contain it,” he said, adding that the fire had not entered any human settlement. ....

KOHIMA/ IMPHAL: The two-week long wildfire in Dzukou Valley on Nagaland-Manipur borders has been doused, and no fresh fire or smoke was visible on Monday, said officials.
Kohima District Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammed Ali Shihad A said that a coordination cum de-briefing meeting was held in connection with the Dzukou Valley wildfire and the meeting reviewed the entire operation.
The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) would assess the damage caused to the forest, environment and other flora and fauna in Dzukou Valley, said the DC. ....
