East Lancashire Scouts join virtual charity challenge

They will be among others from across the North-West region involved in the online event.
Since 2014 the region s Scouts have mounted the hunt around Liverpool city centre to raise money for the charity which provides emergency shelter and other essential items to families who have lost their homes to disasters. 
So far £23,000 has been raised in seven years.
This year coronavirus has forced the event online using videos instead with the challenges being devised by local groups.
Organiser John Cadman said: “Not only is ShelterBox a very worthy cause, but it also gels with the Scouting ethos of helping others. It provides some fantastic programme ideas for our Scout Groups and many of the challenges that we take part in can also be worked into our awards programme. ....

Scouts Canada has partnered with Les Stroud, aka Survivorman, to launch the exciting Great 8 Challenge so youth can spring into adventure. Based on chapters from Les Stroud s new book,
Wild Outside: Around the World with Survivorman (Annick Press, 2021), the campaign will engage youth through eight epic weeks of fun challenges. From developing survival skills like shelter building, wilderness navigation and first aid to learning plant savviness and campfire cooking, each week will keep kids active and outdoors. Winchester Scouts, Beavers and Cubs join Rotary for hospice

LOCAL Scouts have rarely been able to meet over the past year – but that has not stopped them from running charity events online.
Beavers, Cubs and Scouts have joined forces with the city s Rotary Club to raise money for Winchester Hospice.
Each young person has been set the challenge to design a fundraiser to raise at least £30.
On completion, they will be awarded the Hospice Challenge badge, unique to the district.
A Winchester Rotary spokesperson said: With lockdown, the project has been slow to take off but two local Scout Groups in particular, the 3rd and 6th Winchester, have embraced the project. ....
