Noida: In yet another armed carjacking, three men robbed a businessman of his BMW near Noida’s Sector 76 metro station in the early hours of Saturday, police said. The crime took place when Amandeep Singh, one of the directors of the Pinnacle Infrarealty Pvt Ltd and also the owner of a restaurant chain in Noida, was returning home after dropping a friend in Sector 78’s Mahagun Moderne society. Singh stopped near Salarpur drain, a few metres away from the metro station, to urinate at 4.30 am, an officer said. When he returned to his high-end car (UP 17B 1000), three men on a bike arrived at the spot and one of them held him at gunpoint. ....

Teachers and social workers cycle 100km for Covid awareness Samadhan appeals to residents to not let their guard down as lockdown curbs ease Teachers from the Jharia based social organisation Samadhan on Thursday took out a 100 km cycle ride to spread Covid awareness on the occasion of World Bicycle Day. The organisation provides free education to children from economically deprived families. The awareness drive was taken out by Samadhan founder Chandan Singh and his two colleagues Ravindra Kumar and Bittu Singh. They cycled from Sai Mandir of Sindri to Govindur Kisan Chowk and other places like Nawadih and Bank More. ....
Ranchi: The Jharkhand Home Guards Welfare Association (JHWA) on Monday postponed its jail bharo agitation after the state government assured to issue an order for deployment of home guards on regular security duty in all government departments by Tuesday. Currently, the home guards are paid at the rate of 500 per day for the days they are on duty and they are utilized for only about six months in a year. Protesting the paltry honorarium above their non-utilization for six months and not providing any retirement benefits, around 15,000 members of JHWA from different parts of the state have been protesting since March 8 in front of the Sai Mandir in Jagannathpur area here. Their demands included an increase in their daily honorarium to Rs 744, regular duty and payment of retirement benefits. They had announced a jail bharo demonstration on Monday. The protesters said they would call off all forms of agitation only after the government issues the order. ....
