Photo / Supplied Bay of Plenty Times Baypark Speedway has extended its unrivalled record for producing Super Saloon Car champions with Tauranga s Peter Dickson racing to victory in the 2021 New Zealand Championship. Dickson moved past Cowling Motorsport teammate Chris Cowling 10 laps into the 30-lap final at Auckland s Waikaraka Park last Saturday and stayed in front to clinch his second national title. At the time of his first title win in 2017, Dickson was based in Cromwell. Now living in Tauranga, he becomes the 10th different driver to clinch the Super Saloon title while registered at Baypark. ....

The big winner on the final race night of 2020 was Tauranga s Peter Dickson who won the 20-lap Super Saloon Car Gold Cup in his experimental US-style Super Late Model racer. The car had shown glimpses of pace earlier in the season and as the track became slicker, Dickson found the conditions best suited to the car and the 2017 New Zealand champion drove to a clear win in the 20-lapper ahead of teammate Chris Cowling. ....

At 22, Tauranga s Waddell became the youngest champion in the class in February. Since then, after a Covid-shortened 2019/20 racing season and a damaged engine first time out at Baypark Speedway this summer, Waddell has only raced his title-winning car three times.
