Heavy traffic during start of Skyway 3 toll collection 'birth pains,' says MMDA exec

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) traffic chief Bong Nebrija on Tuesday chalked to birth pains Monday s heavy traffic during the start of the toll implementation at Skyway Stage 3.
Interviewed on Unang Balita, Nebrija said the heavy traffic was something they had expected over the weekend prior to the implementation of the toll.
Those are birth pains, naintindihan natin yan [we understand that] and it s something we already expected over the weekend, Nebrija said.
Hopefully it will get better as the days pass.
According to Nebrija, the heavy traffic was caused by motorists who have no RFID stickers or have no load who had to be accommodated as the toll plazas didn t have U-turn slots. ....

Ramon S. Ang pledges additional incentives for Filipino Olympic medalists in Tokyo

San Miguel Corp. big boss Ramon S. Ang sweetened the pot for Filipino athletes who will win medals at the Tokyo Olympics by pledging additional cash incentives.
Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) President Bambol Tolentino disclosed Tuesday that the avid sportsman is offering P10 million for every gold medal, P5 million for silver and P2 million for bronze as an added boost for the 19 PH athletes seeing action in the Games slated July 23.
The development brings the total cash incentives of P30 million for every gold medal, P15 million for silver and P6 million for bronze. ....

San Miguel, biggest Philippines power generator, drops coal projects from expansion plans

MANILA, July 11 (Bloomberg): San Miguel Corp, one of the Philippines’ largest power generators, will drop new coal projects from its expansion plans as it prepares for a transition to a low-carbon future.
This has not been easy as our country still depends much on reliable and affordable traditional power sources,” the company’s President Ramon Ang said in a Facebook post on Saturday.
Still, the nation’s biggest company is confident” it can effect a transition through collaboration and new technologies, he said.
In April, San Miguel said it is spending more than $1 billion to simultaneously build 31 battery energy storage facilities with a total capacity of more than 1,000 megawatts. ....
