The Russian River is the primary source of water for the city s population of 180,000, supplied via aqueduct by the Sonoma County Water Agency. The agency s two reservoirs, Lake Mendocino and Lake Sonoma, are at the lowest levels ever recorded for this time of year, the city said. The action asks residents to take such steps as finding and fixing leaks, reducing outdoor irrigation, converting to drought-tolerant landscaping, taking shorter showers and turning off the water while brushing teeth, the city said. The council vote follows a drought declaration by Gov. Gavin Newsom for the Russian River watershed and a request by the Sonoma-Marin Saving Water Partnership for a 20-percent region-wide reduction. ....
January 11, 2021 A burned underground storm drain pipe was discovered in the Skyhawk Open Space Area last Monday. Sean McNeil, the Deputy Director of Environmental Services for Santa Rosa Water, say the damaged pipe is located directly under portions of unpaved walking trails accessed off Fawn Drive south of Skyhawk Creek.
Engineering crews are currently assessing the damaged pipe. Closure signs and barricades have been installed in the Skyhawk Open Area since October of 2020 due to the Glass Fire. Quick Links ....
