PROPOSALS for a new hotel to open in the heart of York could be scuppered - because police oppose plans for NINE bars to open in the building. The council has also hit out at the project over worries about noise and adult entertainment at the site. Tokyo Industries opened Impossible Wonderbar and Tea Rooms in the former Terry’s building in St Helen’s Square last year. The company has also taken over the former Marchbrae shop next door - where it is due to open a hotel. There are plans for burlesque and cabaret shows to take place at the venue, a rooftop bar to open until 1am, an outdoor seating area in St Helen’s Square and live music. ....
The former Marchbrae store could become a 17-bedroom hotel with restaurant and bar PLANS for a quirky new hotel to open in an empty shop in York city centre have been submitted. The venue, named Hotel Impossible, is planned for the former Marchbrae shop in St Helen s Square opposite Betty s. It would have 17 bedrooms across four floors and a restaurant and bar. Partitions on the ground floor will be demolished to open a link between the new hotel and the newly opened Impossible WonderBar and Tea Rooms in the building that was formerly home to Carluccio s. Applicant Tokyo Industries, which has also taken over the neighbouring building, has submitted a mood board to suggest decor for the new hotel. It includes pictures of bathtubs in bedrooms, chandeliers and velvet furnishings. ....
JDW completes £30.4m Dublin development As reported by The Morning Advertiser’s sister title MCA Insight, JD Wetherspoon (JDW) has made the largest investment in its 41-year history in the development of Keavan’s Port pub and hotel in Dublin. The operator completed the Camden Street Upper site in Dublin city centre having invested €33.4m (£30.4m) in its acquisition and development. The 9,000 square foot site spans two floors and will feature 89 bedrooms alongside a 3,800 square foot garden across two courtyards. JDW intends to hire 200 full and part-time staff at the pub, which is named after an ancient highway into Dublin of which Camden Street formed a part. ....
