The Tulsa Fire Department is giving tenants more time to move out of the Vista Shadow Mountain apartments because of unsafe living conditions.
The fire marshal s office announced it is extending the deadline to 5 p.m. Friday evening, because of how difficult it is for people to find a new place to live. Residents say they feel traumatized and betrayed by this experience and some of the non-profit workers I talked to...say it s taken a toll on them too.

Vista Shadow Mountain Tenants Told To Move Out Within 2 Weeks
All the residents in a Tulsa apartment complex are now being told they have to move out within two weeks.
The Tulsa Fire Department ordered the owners of Vista Shadow Mountain Apartments to clear out residents by July 21, because of unsafe conditions in the complex.
The fire department estimates about 200 people live in the complex, which is mostly vacant. A team of fire marshals spread out through the complex Thursday, planning to inspect every building and look inside every unit.
Many of the buildings have water damage. Some occupied apartments are without complete walls and ceilings, and some have exposed wiring, which was cited by the Fire Department in the order to vacate. ....

HOUSTON – Living in Houston, air quality is a concern for nearly everyone, but research shows some communities are hit harder by the dangers of persistent pollution.
“Poor Black and brown communities are experiencing more of the burdens of environmental injustice, which we call environmental racism as well,” said Zoe Middleton with Texas Housers, a non-profit focused on solving housing and community development issues.
The group mapped industrial hazardous waste sites and sources of air pollution and found they were concentrated in low-income, historically Black, and Hispanic communities. ....
