Southington crews clean up ammonia leak

SOUTHINGTON, Conn. Officials are cleaning up after an ammonia spill inside a business on Industrial Avenue.
Deputy Chief Scott DiBattista said several 911 calls came in around 8 p.m. Sunday reporting a strong ammonia smell in the area of Elizabeth Drive.
First responders arrived at 93 Industrial Avenue, aware that ammonia was used at the business. Officials said that the first crews at the scene smelled an odor. Using thermal imaging cameras, they were able to see a plume venting from the roof.
Fire Department marks trails to help lost, injured hikers- SOUTHINGTON As a way to help with emergencies on town trails, the Fire Department has started on a trail-marking project. Firefighter Christopher Fusco has been spearheading the project for over four years and first implemented it at Crescent Lake.

Fire crews are investigating after a mulch fire spread to a nearby hotel in Southington Sunday afternoon.

SOUTHINGTON â Fire officials chose interim chief James Paul to take the job permanently, voting for the former assistant fire chiefâs appointment unanimously Thursday night.
Paul was assistant fire chief and fire marshal until the departure of former chief Richard Butler late last year. The Board of Fire Commissioners then appointed Paul as interim chief while they awaited results of a consultantâs candidate search.
