A Doña Ana County child passed away after having contracted COVID-19.
KFOX14 doesn’t have the child’s exact age, but we do know she was under 10.
A pediatrician said while the death is unfortunate, it was bound to happen.
“We are seeing an increase in cases in children, so with an increase in cases and hospitalizations, then we’re seeing the chance rise that there can be either a death in a child or long term problems with the child after contracting the virus,” Scott Cyrus, a professor and the Chief of the Pediatric Division at the Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine said. ....

The alleged kidnapping of 36-year-old Yunuen Huerta out of La Union, New Mexico, is raising questions.
KFOX14 learned Thursday afternoon that Huerta is not being held against her will, according to the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department. 
RECOMMENDED: Doña Ana County Sheriff s Office seek help in possible kidnapping
KFOX14 obtained the 911 phone calls Huerta made asking for help.

New Mexico students and teachers are expected to return to the classroom by April 5, full time and in-person, but school leaders feel the decision was rushed.
CBS4 spoke with Las Cruces Public School board members and the Gadsden Independent School District superintendent.
Both said they were not asked for input or briefed in advance on the decision to bring all students back for in-person learning by April 5.
