CM Manohar Lal Khattar's govt wins trust vote comfortably


The motion was defeated following division of votes.
At the end of a marathon six-hour discussion on the motion, Speaker Gian Chand Gupta announced in the House that 55 members had voted against the motion while 32 legislators had backed it.
In place of secret voting, which former chief minister B S Hooda had earlier demanded in the House, the Speaker first asked the members favouring the motion to rise from their seats and those against it were asked to stand. A headcount was done later.
The 55 members who voted against the motion included 39 from the BJP, 10 of ally Jannayak Janta Party, five Independents and Gopal Kanda from Haryana Lokhit Party. ....

BJP sweeps Gujarat local body polls, wins all 31 district panchayats


The BJP won all 31 district panchayats, 70 out of 81 municipalities and was far ahead of main rival Congress in 231 taluka panchayats as counting for the second phase of local body polls in Gujarat was underway on Tuesday.
The success follows the BJP s clean sweep in elections for six municipal corporations in the first phase last month.
In the second phase of elections for which counting began at 9 in the morning, the BJP had won 6,110 out of 8,261 seats for which results had been announced by the State Election Commission by evening.
A total of 8,474 seats were up for grabs in the second phase across district and taluka panchayats and municipal councils. Elections were held on February 28. ....

Will ask farmers in poll-bound states to defeat BJP: Union leaders


Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), which is spearheading anti- farm law protests in Delhi, will send its leaders to poll-bound states to appeal to farmers there to defeat the BJP in assembly elections, leaders of the outfit said on Tuesday.
The protesting farmers will also block the KMP (Western Peripheral) Expressway on March 6 as the anti-farm law protest at Delhi borders completes 100 days. The expressway will be blocked at various points for five hours, from 11 am on March 6, SKM leader Yogendra Yadav said.
He said SKM leaders will hold a public meeting in Kolkata on March 12 to appeal to the farmers of poll-bound states. ....

Social media can topple govts, working on a law to regulate it: Ram Madhav


Senior BJP leader Ram Madhav said that social media has become so powerful that it can even topple governments, leading to anarchy and weakening democracy, and solutions to tackle this are needed to be found within the constitutional framework.
Speaking at the launch of his new book Because India Comes First , Madhav said democracy is stressed and facing new challenges with the rise of non-political and non-state forces.
