Lake Placid's Main Street overhaul will start this month | State News

LAKE PLACID â An infrastructure overhaul on Main Street is set to begin this month, and local officials used a recent virtual meeting to say what residents, business owners and tourists can expect on a day-to-day basis as this $10 million, nearly three-year project unfolds.
A crew from Wilton-based construction company Kubricky Construction is expected to break ground on the Main Street project in the second week of April, according to Highway Superintendent Brad Hathaway. Traffic detours will start to be set up in about a week. This project will continue, off and on depending on the season, through fall 2023. The bulk of the work is expected to be done ahead of the 2023 World University Games. ....

A campaign to “Save the Red House” is underway in Lake Placid. The Red House is part of the first home built in Lake Placid by the Nash family shortly after they arrived in 1851. It stands in almost the same location as the original house, near the corner of Mirror Lake Drive and Main Street.
The property is now owned by Peter Roland, who has announced that both houses now standing at the corner will be torn down by May 1 to make way for new construction.
A group of residents interested in preserving the historic house met Tuesday night at the home of Mrs. Raymond C. Prime to discuss plans to save it. ....

Main Street’s infrastructure overhaul is expected to begin on Monday, April 5. Temporary traffic lights such as those seen above on Tuesday, March 30 have been set up at the corners of Main Street and Olympic Drive and Saranac Avenue and Wesvalley Road. During the work, Main Street will be open to one-way traffic, going toward Saranac Avenue from the post office.
