LAKE PLACID â Lake Placid appears to be in for another busy summer season this year as tourism officials expect a continuation of last yearâs rubber-tire travel trend. Lake Placid is almost always busy in the summer. The village and town of North Elba host a variety of large-scale sporting events; itâs in close proximity to the High Peaks Wilderness, popular with hikers; and its Main Street is walkable with a variety of businesses and restaurants. Itâs also been a popular vacation destination for generations. Last year, it was unclear if the usual influx of tourists in the summer would still come because of the coronavirus pandemic, and also because the Canadian border was closed to nonessential travel. But in part because Lake Placid is easy for many New Yorkers to drive to, the season was as busy as ever. ....

Devlin who served as a village trustee for 12 years, the last eight years as deputy mayor was sworn in by village Clerk Anita Estling before a small gathering of people, including village Treasurer Mindy Goddeau, Lake Placid Police Chief William Moore, Assistant Chief Charles Dobson and Highway Superintendent Brad Hathaway. Devlin ran on the Republican and Teamwork party lines. He won the village election last month with 342 votes to his opponent’s 222 votes. He succeeds Craig Randall, who was term-limited and retired after serving as mayor since 2009. ....
LAKE PLACID â An infrastructure overhaul on Main Street is set to begin this month, and local officials used a recent virtual meeting to say what residents, business owners and tourists can expect on a day-to-day basis as this $10 million, nearly three-year project unfolds. A crew from Wilton-based construction company Kubricky Construction is expected to break ground on the Main Street project in the second week of April, according to Highway Superintendent Brad Hathaway. Traffic detours will start to be set up in about a week. This project will continue, off and on depending on the season, through fall 2023. The bulk of the work is expected to be done ahead of the 2023 World University Games. ....
