Man robbed at knifepoint on Rutgers’ College Avenue campus, cops say

A man was robbed at knifepoint just off College Avenue in New Brunswick late Wednesday, authorities said.
He was walking around 11:50 p.m. when four men forced him into the alley between two college office buildings on Bartlett Street, the Rutgers University Police Department said in a statement.
The robbers showed a knife, punched the victim several times and stole property before running away, police said.
The victim, who is affiliated with Rutgers, declined to be treated for minor injuries. The RUPD does not say if crime victims affiliated with the school are students, faculty or staff. ....

In the most recent update on the University’s social justice commitments, Northwestern leadership announced the creation of a cross-University program to develop organizational capability for restorative justice practices. The program will be housed in the Office of Equity and will be available to students, staff and faculty. Program development is underway with the program sponsors, and facilitator training will begin this month, with the program anticipated to launch in Fall 2021.
Restorative practices were introduced to the Northwestern community in August 2017 by Social Justice Education staff. Since then, Social Justice Education, Office of Community Standards, Office of Equity and Office of Human Resources have partnered to develop the practices into a University-wide program. ....

Weinberg junior implements social justice education workshops within ASG

Weinberg junior Karina Karbo-Wright was initially hesitant to take on the Associated Student Government position of chair of social justice education and recruitment.
Karbo-Wright said she did not want to be ASG’s designated “cleaning lady” for internal issues of equity. However, after considering her experience and her ability, she changed her mind.
“I realized there needed to be someone who shared my knowledge around how to navigate these spaces,” Karbo-Wright said. “There needed to be someone in ASG who had the capacity and patience to work through (internal equity issues) and provide avenues for learning.”
Her position was only created last summer under former ASG President Juan Zuniga. Zuniga said the role was intended to function separately from the Justice and Inclusion Committee. ....
