Mayor: City came together to face COVID-19 challenges
RICHMOND, Ind. COVID-19 brought continuing challenges to Richmond.
The coronavirus has impacted city government as well as residents, and Mayor Dave Snow spoke about COVID-19 challenges during his State of the City address Thursday.
“COVID-19 has brought with it a seismic shift to our local economy, a dramatic change in how we gather and move about our day and has taken a toll on our physical and mental health as a community,” he said during the address from the Whitewater Community Television studios on the Indiana University East campus.

Positively, COVID-19 called individuals and organizations to help others, but negatively, loved ones have died because of the coronavirus. Snow said vaccinations and continued precautions such as masking, social distancing and washing hands is the recipe for success against the coronavirus. ....

Indiana Awards $100 Million in Matching Funds for Local Infrastructure Projects

Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb and Indiana Department of Transportation Commissioner Joe McGuinness recently announced $100.2 million in state matching funds have been distributed to local government agencies to support road and bridge projects.
The funding, provided through the Community Crossings Matching Grant program, has been divided among 218 cities, towns and counties. A component of Holcomb’s Next Level Roads program, Community Crossings dedicates funding specifically for local road and bridge improvements.
At an event held to announce the funding, Holcomb said the 218 community partners represent 89 of Indiana’s 92 counties. ....

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) recently announced 218 Indiana cities, towns, and counties received a combined $100.2 million in state matching funds for local road projects through Community Crossings, a component of the Governor’s Next Level Roads program.
The Community Crossings initiative has provided more than $931 million in state matching funds for local road construction projects since 2016. Communities submitted applications for funding during a highly competitive call for projects held in January. Applications were evaluated based on need and current conditions and impacts to safety and economic development. Funding for Community Crossings comes from the state’s local road and bridge matching grant fund. ....
