National Day of Prayer held at Beirut Memorial This year the National Day of Prayer came at a good time after Governor Cooper has allowed a larger number of people to gather. In his proclamation, he believes all North Carolinians of all faiths and backgrounds should be able to express their beliefs through prayer. Last year due to Covid-19 restrictions, no more than 10 people could gather so the Day of Prayer was livestreamed for the residents of Onslow. This year the celebration was held at noon on Thursday at the Beirut Memorial in Jacksonville. The community came together with their lawn chairs, spread out and socially distanced. ....

Over 1,000 miles away in Onslow County, the impact was felt immediately. A few days after news of Floyd s death broke, protestors gathered at the corner of Western Boulevard and Highway 17.
